Late Models set for 2nd annual Dusty Young Memorial 50 lapper.

The Late Models are gearing up for their first special of the season, and speedway management announced today that the 2nd Annual Dusty Young Memorial will have an increase in distance. Originally scheduled for the regular 30 laps, Race Director Dave Alburn announced that the event will go 50 laps. In addition to the extra distance, the event will pay the winner up to $1,100.

This annual Late Model event is in memory of Dusty Young, father of former Late Model standout Glenn “Fireball” Young, and could be seen around the speedway either hanging around the race car or the Team 99 bus that frequented speedways throughout New England. Dusty passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer in 2008. Dusty was not only a team owner, he had previously been an official at Norwood Arena.

Glenn is offering and extra $500 to win this event, increasing the winners share to $1,000. This event also falls under the Phil’s Propane contingency program, offering an additional $100 if the competitor is carrying the Phil’s Propane contingency decal, making the total winners share up to $1,100.

The defending race winner, Kyle Casper, has moved up into the Pro Stocks, but is expected to return and compete for the win. Ryan Vanasse is the current front runner in the Late Models with four straight wins, going back to 2008. Reigning champion Gerry DeGasparre is coming off a solid second place finish, and is poised for his first trip to Victory Lane. Kevin Casper, Jon Dickerman and others are also knocking on the door of victory. Outside competitors are welcome to come in and compete.

Also in action will be the ARC Pro Stocks, Seekonk Sport Trucks and Street Stocks. Pit gates open at 2:00pm, with the general admission gates opening at 4:00. Adult admission is just $12.00, with kids 12 and under FREE. Pit area admission is $30.00. Action starts at 6:00pm. Please contact the speedway office with any questions at (508) 336-9959.
